💔 NEVER LET GO — Episode Ten: "When Love Turns to Rage"
When the girls stepped into the sitting room, the quiet space brightened instantly with their presence. Stanley had been scrolling through his phone absentmindedly, but the moment he raised his head, his entire world seemed to pause. His gaze locked onto Ivy, the outstanding beauty dressed in red. Her calm elegance, her natural glow and the gentle sway of her steps drew him in like a force he could not resist. His heart fluttered before he could hide it.
He offered Ivy a warm and affectionate smile, then politely gestured towards the door.
“Shall we?” he asked, trying to sound confident even though his chest felt too tight for comfort.
He escorted them to his car and opened the doors respectfully. Afterwards, he drove straight to one of the finest hotels in town, a place he had chosen with careful intention. Unknown to the girls, Stanley had already booked a table for the four of them before arrival. He wanted everything to be perfect, especially for Ivy.
When they arrived, the elegant lights, soft music and soothing scent of the restaurant welcomed them. They settled down, admired the serene environment and ordered their meals. Ivy took her time choosing her dish and Stanley, without hesitation, told the waiter, “I will have the same thing she is having.” It was his subtle way of drawing closer to her world.
But his calm mask kept slipping. Stanley’s gaze kept returning to Ivy, deeper and more intense than before. She looked beautiful in a way that unsettled him. He felt something stronger than admiration stirring violently inside him. At that moment, he wished he could be brave enough to tell her everything he felt, everything his heart had been holding back, everything he feared would consume him if he let it stay hidden.
Nkechi noticed the way he kept staring at Ivy. She glanced at Bianca and gave the agreed signal. Bianca nodded slightly, her lips forming a mischievous smile as she excused herself. Nkechi followed soon after and both of them made their way to the restroom to begin their plan.
Left alone with Ivy, Stanley became unusually restless. His heartbeat thumped loudly, and he felt his breath shorten. He swallowed hard, cleared his croaking throat and tried to steady himself, but the emotions inside him only grew stronger. Ivy noticed the tension in his eyes and the stiffness in his posture.
“Sir, you look distracted. I hope all is well?” she asked softly, her melodic voice melting through his defenses.
“Actually, you must not address me as sir. It makes me feel unworthy of you,” Stanley replied gently. He moved his hands closer to hers and held them with care. Her soft palms only increased his confusion and desire. He wanted to speak, to confess, to open the door to everything he had been holding inside.
“Ivy… I am… I am…” he stuttered, but the words refused to come out. His tongue felt heavy, and fear choked him.
Just then, Nkechi sneaked back into the hall. She stood behind Stanley without making a sound and signalled Ivy. Ivy looked up and followed the signal with her eyes. She saw a young man standing by the corner of the hall, pretending to be searching for something. Ivy knew this was the next part of the plan the two sisters had told her about initially. She hesitated for a moment, then gently withdrew her hands from Stanley and excused herself.
The young man’s face lit up the moment he saw Ivy. He walked towards her with excitement and they embraced briefly. Stanley watched them and felt something crack inside him. Confusion, jealousy and betrayal flooded his chest instantly. The man led Ivy to an empty table and they began chatting and laughing comfortably.
Stanley felt the world tilt. He watched Ivy smile at another man, watched her laugh freely, watched her look peaceful in someone else’s presence. It hurt in a way he had never experienced before. Stanley blinked rapidly as tears burned behind his eyes. For the first time in his life, he let bitter tears fall down his cheeks. He felt foolish, deceived and broken all at once.
Unable to hold it in, Stanley stood up abruptly. His chair scraped against the tiled floor, drawing attention. He marched towards them, his eyes red, his breath heavy and his entire body trembling.
“Ivy, are you mad? Have you lost your senses? Who are you to walk out on me and sit here laughing like a zombie with this incompetent fool? What do you think you are doing?” Stanley roared with a thunderous voice that shook the hotel. His face looked dangerously dark, his anger far beyond control.
Ivy froze, frightened. She stood up with trembling hands. Bianca and Nkechi rushed back immediately, sensing the chaos.
“I am sorry sir. I am truly sor…” Ivy was still saying.
“You are a bastard. Sorry for your miserable life. What am I even doing here? I should have known earlier that I am falling for a fallen lady. Senseless bitch!” Stanley spat angrily before storming out of the hotel. But before leaving, he still paid the bills, his hands shaking as he signed the receipt.
Ivy burst into uncontrollable tears. Her voice shook as she turned to her friends.
“I warned both of you. You forced me into this meaningless drama even though I did not understand what you wanted to achieve. What do I do now? His anger has gone beyond anything I can manage,” Ivy cried painfully.
“It will be fine Ivy. Sam, we are done with you. You can go,” Bianca said coldly as the young man collected his payment and walked out.
“Ivy, let us go. He must be waiting for us outside,” Nkechi added.
“I am scared. I have never seen him this angry,” Ivy whispered and followed them reluctantly.
Bianca and Nkechi entered the car, but when Ivy tried to enter, Stanley’s voice tore through the air.
“Enter this car and I will make your life miserable,” he threatened sharply. His eyes held no mercy.
He drove off, leaving Ivy behind as if she meant nothing. Bianca and Nkechi watched helplessly, their hearts sinking.
“But brother, she is an orphan. Something bad may happen to her out there. We are sorry. Forgive…” Bianca began.
“I swear, if I hear your useless voice again, you will regret the day you became my sister. None of you knows what I can do when I am in this mood. Do not push me, or I will do something I will not care to regret,” Stanley hissed venomously.
Both sisters became terrified. They regretted everything they had caused, everything they had set in motion.
That night, Ivy wandered the streets, shattered and drenched in tears. She had no money, no strength and no direction. She begged strangers for help, trembling with fear and shame, until a kind young lady gave her money for transport. She entered a taxi and made her way home, praying silently for safety.
But what waited for her at home was worse than the humiliation at the hotel.
As she walked into the compound, she saw Stanley outside, dragging her belongings and throwing them on the floor. His mother and sisters begged him to calm down, but he refused. The rage inside him had taken over completely.
Ivy fell to her knees instantly.
“Please sir. I can explain. It is not what you think. I am so sorry,” she begged with tears streaming down her face.
“Say another word and you will leave here with a scar that will stay forever. You are a prostitute,” Stanley said coldly. Each word pierced her soul.
Ivy was the first and only girl he had truly fallen in love with, but now pain had twisted that love into something dangerous and uncontrollable.
“I do not have anywhere to go. Please have mercy. I will die out there,” Ivy cried, her voice shaking.
“Son, please pity the poor orphan. Allow her to stay till morning no matter what she did,” Grace pleaded.
“That is if she is even truly an orphan. I do not care. She should go back to where she used to buy fifty naira pepper and onions. If she prefers that useless man, she should go to him. She dared to choose him over me. She dared to humiliate me. I do not want to kill her tonight. She must leave,” Stanley shouted and threw her things outside the gate.
Then he pushed her out of the mansion.
He warned the gateman strictly, “Take her far away from the gate. Make sure she never returns.”
Ivy walked alone into the night with no direction and no protection. The cold air stung her skin and her legs trembled with every step. Everything felt unreal. Everything felt like a nightmare she could not wake from. Her heart kept breaking as she replayed the events of the night. She could not help but believe Bianca and Nkechi had set her up purposely. Her innocence made her cry even harder. Tears fell endlessly as she walked into the darkness, unsure of where she was going.
