💔 NEVER LET GO — Episode Eight: "Cassandra’s Fury, Stanley’s Weakness"
The day Bianca and Nkechi transformed Ivy felt like a quiet miracle in the house. They had spent hours polishing her skin, tending to her hair, dressing her in clothes that carried dignity and softness. By evening, Ivy looked nothing like the girl who had walked into their home days ago. She looked reborn. And this evening, Ivy was wearing a very beautiful and sexy singlet and jean skirt. Nkechi and Bianca had intentionally convinced her to wear them, but she was too naive to understand why.
Stanley returned later that night with a lady he had met the previous day. He rang the doorbell casually, unaware that his entire perception of Ivy was about to change. Ivy was the only one in the living room, so she hurried to the door and opened it gently.
The moment Stanley saw her, he froze.
It was as though someone had switched the world into slow motion. His eyes travelled from her face to the new dress she wore, then back to her face again. He stood speechless, caught helplessly between shock and admiration. Even the bag in his hand almost slipped.
“Sir… let me help you with your bag,” Ivy said shyly, and before he could respond, she took it from him and went straight into his room to keep it.
The lady with Stanley watched the entire moment with narrowed eyes. Suspicion crept over her like a shadow.
“Stanley, who is that girl that just left? And do not attempt to tell me she is your girlfriend,” she asked tensely, her voice sharp with accusation.
“Cassandra, I do not have an answer to your silly and worthless question right now. Let us go inside,” Stanley replied carelessly.
“What do you mean by not having an answer? How can you claim you have feelings for me yet stare at another girl like you have never seen a woman in your entire life? Do you think you brought me here so you can embarrass me? Then something must be wrong with you,” Cassandra snapped and made to leave.
“And where exactly do you think you are going?” Stanley asked coldly.
“Where does it look like I am going? You are a disappointment to manhood. You know how much I hate men who cannot control their dirty desires. You said I am the only one who makes your heart race, yet you almost swallowed that girl with your eyes. Look at the way you stared at her like a hungry cat in need of a helpless rat. I cannot stand this stupidity. My kind is rare,” she ranted.
Stanley’s hand flew before she could finish. The slap echoed violently, forcing a scream from her lips.
“Do not push me today. You cannot withstand what I can do when I am provoked. My friend, get inside let us finish what we came here to do. Have you lost your sense of respect? You clearly do not know the type of man standing before you,” Stanley commanded.
“Go inside my foot. God will punish you Stan. You will suffer for raising your hands at me,” Cassandra spat furiously.
“I am warning you for the last time. Mind your tongue or I will make your life a complete misery,” Stanley threatened.
“We are not done Stan. I will get my revenge. Watch and see,” Cassandra vowed as she stormed out, flinging curses behind her.
Stanley glared after her with intense hatred. For a moment, he wished he had done worse. But just then, Ivy appeared behind him.
“Sir, I heard someone shouting earlier and got worried. I hope everything is fine,” Ivy asked with gentle concern.
Stanley’s anger dissolved instantly. Seeing her again made his chest tighten in an unfamiliar way.
“It is fine Ivy. How do you look this beautiful? How is this even possible? You are such a beauty,” he said sincerely.
“Thank you sir. Your supper is ready and it may get cold,” Ivy replied quietly.
“Oh sure. Let us go inside,” Stanley said quickly and followed her, still unable to hide his astonishment.
At the dining table, he tried to eat, but Ivy sitting across from him made concentration impossible. Her new look unsettled him deeply. Ivy noticed he kept stealing glances but could not understand why.
“Sir, thank you so much for everything. You saved me. I am very grateful,” Ivy said with heartfelt appreciation.
“Come on Ivy, you do not have to say that. Bringing you here is one of the best decisions I have ever made, especially now that you have revealed who you truly are,” Stanley said, though Ivy did not understand what he meant.
“By the way, who changed you like this? I could swear I barely recognized you at the door,” he added.
“Sister Bianca and Nkechi did. They even promised to get me a boyfriend even though I…”
Before she could finish, Stanley choked violently and spilled the food from his mouth. Ivy panicked and rushed water to him.
“I am so sorry sir. Maybe the food has too much pepper,” she said anxiously.
Just then, Nkechi walked into the living room.
“Brother good evening. How is the food? I made it myself to prove to you that I am a professional chef when it comes to fried rice and chicken,” she said proudly.
Stanley shot her a hateful look, hissed loudly and dropped his cutlery. Without saying a word, he stormed off to his room.
Nkechi and Ivy stared at him in shock.
“What is wrong? Did you do or say anything to him?” Nkechi asked Ivy.
“No. I did not,” Ivy replied softly.
“Let me go and ask him,” Nkechi said and hurried off.
She found Stanley pacing restlessly around his room, his mind obviously troubled.
“Brother, what is it? Do you not like the food? We can order something else or cook another dish,” Nkechi suggested.
“I would have dealt with you if you were not my younger sister. Why would you want to get Ivy a boyfriend? She is my responsibility. Not yours. Not anyone’s,” Stanley said furiously.
“But Bianca and I only wanted to make her feel happy,” Nkechi pleaded.
“Happiness destroy you there. You are just a fresher in the university and barely eighteen. What do you know about boyfriends or trying to get one for Ivy? Is this what you do in school with the money I spend on you?” Stanley scolded harshly.
Nkechi burst into tears.
“I am sorry brother. I only wanted to…”
“Get out of my sight. You have disappointed me. Just get lost,” Stanley said coldly.
“Brother I am sorry. Please forgive me,” she begged.
“You would not want to know what I can do to you in this moment. Leave now,” Stanley warned.
Crying uncontrollably, Nkechi rushed out.
Ivy saw her crying and her heart sank. She tried to find out what happened but Nkechi refused to speak. Ivy became worried. She blamed herself and decided to speak to Stanley.
She knocked gently and stepped into his room. He was sitting on the bed, lost in his thoughts.
“Sir, forgive me for disturbing you. I care for Nkechi and it hurts me to see her in tears. Please sir, did she do anything wrong? I am begging on her behalf,” Ivy pleaded.
“Ivy, leave. Just go. You do not understand anything,” Stanley said impatiently.
“But sir, she is…”
“I said leave. Are you mad? Get out!" he shouted, making Ivy rush out in fear.
As soon as she left, guilt washed over him. He regretted his tone but frustration held him down.
That night, sleep refused to come to both Ivy and Nkechi. Ivy loved Stanley deeply as her helper and protector and could not bear to annoy him. She tried asking Nkechi again, but she was too emotional to explain.
Bianca also grew curious but got no answers. All she knew was that their simple plan to find a boyfriend for Ivy had somehow shaken their wayward brother in a way none of them understood.
Later that night, after Ivy had drifted off to sleep, Nkechi explained everything to Bianca. Bianca became just as puzzled and even more intrigued. They eventually slept, though their minds kept wandering back to the strange reaction from Stanley.
